The White Paper Urban Tree Biosecurity for Europe’s Future: A One Health Perspective argues that protecting urban trees from invasive pests and diseases is essential not only for healthy and resilient cities, but also for safeguarding biodiversity, forests, the bioeconomy and human well-being. Urban trees provide critical ecosystem services yet face increasing pressures from climate change, urban stress and global trade, while Europe’s current biosecurity systems remain fragmented and under-resourced. The paper therefore calls for urban tree biosecurity to become a strategic research and policy priority within a One Health framework, integrating prevention, early detection, rapid response and sustainable long-term management. It highlights priorities including innovative surveillance and diagnostics, coordinated outbreak response, climate- and pest-resilient treescapes, sustainable integrated pest management, and stronger shared infrastructure, education, citizen engagement and cross-sector collaboration. Ultimately, investing in urban tree biosecurity is presented as a cost-effective way to strengthen the resilience, sustainability and well-being of both European cities and the wider landscapes to which they are connected
